Diane Kruger Mourned For Money
‘Inglourious Basterds’ star Diane Kruger has revealed her first job was as a ”professional griever” at Catholic funerals.
Diane Kruger used to be a “professional griever”.
The ‘Inglourious Basterds’ star – who had a strict Catholic upbringing – claims her “worst job” ever was when she used to get paid to attend the funerals of people in her native Germany.
She said: “We always had jobs. Between the ages of eight and 12 I was a professional griever. I’m not joking!
“I went to Catholic school and they would have young girls with a candle stand in front of the coffins. It was the worst job anyone could think of.
“You’d stand there, with people crying and weeping, and walk in front of the coffin. Once they were buried, the priest would come up to you and hand you five Deutschmarks.”
The 33-year-old star – who is dating actor Joshua Jackson – also admitted her home life was “difficult” and she spent little time with her parents.
She added to Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “My home life was a little difficult. My father was ill. He was – is – an alcoholic, so he wasn’t really around. My mom worked in a bank so I grew up mostly with my grandparents.
“I think it was really hard on my mom. I mean, she went through a lot.”
