According to Mycelebritybuzz.com, a total of 23,495 Ghanaians have tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) within just a short space.
Ghana AIDS Commission have indicated that within just a space of 6 months, thus from January to June, a total of 948,094 HIV tests were conducted.
Out of the 948,094 people who undertook the test, 23,495 unfortunately tested positive for the deadly virus.
This report by the National STIs has raised a public concern as to what’s really going on after this shocking results.
Statistics from the National STIs and HIV/AIDS Control Programme indicated that a total of 23,495 people tested positive for HIV in the first half of 2022.
The Central Region has been attributed to be one of the hot zones that HIV is very rampant and caution has already been issued.
Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene, the Director-General of the AIDS Commission has attributed the rampant rise in HIV to Galamsey as a key factor.
Speaking on World AIDS day in Accra, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene sated,
“The galamsey menace can substantially contribute to the new infections and further undermine progress towards achieving the elimination agenda. A recent study that assessed the impact of national resource extraction projects on HIV transmission risks in local communities in sub-Saharan countries, including Ghana, reports that mine openings increase the odds of HIV infections almost two folds.”
